The Utopia of a World Peace
The Utopia
Those who have opened themselves to the power of a path, such as the Way of
St. James’s, and experienced this power firsthand; those who have experienced
an inner and outer transformation, a call to new horizons, encounters and
experiences, will find themselves on a path directed to the future, not only
in themselves, but through a promise of an interconnected world happiness and
peace.
Pilgrim-, peace- and cultural-paths, that is to say paths, which, in their
innermost intentions, transient of spatial goals, in pursuit of inner
spiritual, religious, cultural or humanistic goals, have proved to be a
phenomena of world culture, not only advancing each individual in their
personal quest for development, personal satisfaction and happiness, but apart
from this, offering the opportunity to build bridges of understanding between
the most varying of cultures and religions.
A variety of modern media and transport routes has brought the world in the
21st century closer together. They enable the bridging of walls between
nations, cultures and religions; irrespective of whether these are real or
invisible in the minds of people, who are willing to build real walls or
yield to them.
Cultural, national and religious achievements are treasures of mankind and as
such should be protected and promoted. They multiply their value through the
fact that they are communicated to others and, as such, become a tangible
value for those experiencing them. If we can open a door to these values,
then the way to the peculiarities of others leads to a way of peace as well
as one’s own personal and cultural development.
The vision of a World Peace Way, spanning the globe, stands symbolically for
the reality of an already inseparably interlinked world, at the same time
marking a vision of a future of races/peoples, cultures and religions living
together in peace and mutual respect. It calls upon the different
nationalities as well as each individual to move on to a fully integrated
cultural, physical and spiritual path in the pursuit of knowledge, peace and
happiness, a path which stands for an inseparable bonding with the rest of
the world, with which it seeks to connect in a loving way. In practical
planning, implementation as well as the striding of such a path, the
materialization of a Way of Peace between the many different world cultures
could/would be realized.
The practical concept of the path and its organization
The World Peace Way is a pedestrian-, bicycle- and sea-route and follows in
principle the path of the light of the world, i.e. the sun moving from east
to west. It connects the most important pilgrimage sites and cultural roads
of world religions and as such, all continents with each other. Since the
intention is not only to build a bridge between world cultures, but just as
much between the different, often opposing, interests of power within a
single culture, it is a common concern of states and confederations,
religions and churches, art and culture, and global corporations.
The path will not only be supported in terms of the bridging of apparent
contradictions, partly commercial and partly through voluntary engagement.
One possible form of this organization could be, for instance, an
international NGO (non-governmental organization), similar to Amnesty International,
working with both full-time as well as volunteer staff. In these particular
cases, for instance, when it has to do with the initial planning, marking and
political realization of the individual stretches of the route. Other tasks
would be the accompanying of walkers/pilgrims along the way, by means of a
supporter, in addition to their accommodation and care in private homes.
In the long-run, the reality would be a path, which is either continuously
documented or, alternatively, sign-posted on a global basis. In addition, it
would represent a project, in which numerous walkers in the forefront as
pioneers in a kind of relay would circle the world (the holiday entitlement
would hardly cover the time needed to do this!). The relay of these walkers from
their various cultures and religions would be followed by the press on a
regional and intraregional level, which in turn would carry a message of
peace to the world. The walkers themselves will be offered a cultural
program, which enables a conscious encounter with the local cultures, their
idiosyncrasies and issues, making a peaceful understanding possible.
The walker carries a kind of relay baton with him/her, whose symbolism
corresponds to the ideology of the path and on which the stretches, which have
already been covered, are engraved. Each walker would then have the
opportunity to obtain a copy of the baton.
The Route
It is probably not possible to connect all countries and cultures of the
world right from the beginning. In order to make the path visible from a
practical point of view, it would be necessary to lay down a route for the
future realization of the project. When the idea gains more supporters,
further alternative routes could then be added, leading to the possibility of
the path becoming a net-work in the future. The route roughly described here
is, therefore, to be seen is preliminary and requires further corrections as
well as complementation.
The path would begin on the 0-meridian line and proceeds by way of the Via
Podiensis and via the Camino Frances to Santiago. From there, it continues on
the Via de la Plata to Seville and then on to Gibraltar. It would then follow
further, for instance, along the African coast until Dakar in Senegal. Brazil
would then be reached by sea-vessel. Using the Pan-American Highway, South
America would be crossed to the west, passing the historic sites of the Incas
on its way. Continuing on this route, or rather the parallel roads and paths,
the World Peace Way would lead up to the U.S. or to Alaska, from which point
the walker would transfer by vessel to Russia or Japan. From here the route
would be covered alternatively on foot or by vessel via Papua New Guinea to
Australia and then further on via Indonesia to Varanasi in India. The path
then continues through the Arabian Peninsula to Mecca in Saudi Arabia and
from there to Jerusalem. The remainder of the path then continues over land
to, for instance, Greece, from where one would take a ship for the last time
to Italy. On the Via Francigena the path continues to Rome and then on to
Worms. The final stretch of the World Peace Way is covered again on the St.
James’s Way via the Via Podensis up to the 0-meridian line.
Personal remarks and views
The author is fully aware that the vision as presented above is so audacious
that it will cause wonder and amusement to some readers. Even if the
realization/ implementation of such a world encompassing vision must cross
many paths and bridges, I am convinced that the power of belief/faith will
lead to this dream achieving its goal. Friends around the world who are
passionate about this idea or who themselves are following similar dreams,
without my previous knowledge, are requested to contact me or give their
support.´

reales o a aceptarlos.
Logros culturales, nacionales y
Creando accesos a
iglesias, arte y cultura, economía y consorcios mundiales.
Camino Francés a Santiago.
entero requiera todavía hacer muchos caminos y construir muchos puentes,

Jakobsweges - eingelassen hat und diese Kraft am eigenen Laib erleben durfte;
